Best WordPress Themes 2011

by John Detlefs on December 27, 2011

Hey there! So now that 2011 has come to an end I though it was only right to take a look at which themes have been fantastic in 2011 and which themes have been clunkers.

Firstly though, lets take a look at the premium themes… and there have been some fantastic ones!

Best WordPress Themes for 2011:

Optimize Press – A sales page and membership theme that helps you get your membership site up and monetized in no time… This is the brain child of xxx and he has done a lot of work with the like of Frank Kern, John Reese and the like. This, to my mind, was by far the

.

Silver and Bronze go to Headway and Genesis themes as the next Best WordPress Themes this year.

Headway theme for WordPress is just brilliant. The ability to be able to just drag and drop to design your website is a massive step forward, and has really stolen the thunder from the theme that used to be it’s arch rival, Thesis Theme for WordPress (who we’ll talk about in a minute).

2011 was a great year for Genesis, which was created by one of the co-founders of Thesis who split after some acrimony after pearson’s fallout with WordPress (a big deal that i’m not going to go into on this post, but that you can check out here).

Genesis is a relatively new competitor in the world of WordPress Themes in 2011 but it has started with a bang, with some fantastic features that will be sure to give Headway a run for their money.

So who’s the biggest loser Theme for 2011? It’s no big secret… Thesis Theme!

After pledging to come out with the long awaited Thesis 2.0, Tony Pearson instead came out with Thesis 1.8 (a slightly updated version) and has still not been able to give a finish date to his subscribers, prompting a lot of whinging in the DIY Themes forum. It seems now that Thesis has lost a lot of ground to it’s major competitors Headway and Genesis, who have both come out with more than 1 major ugrade in the last year.

And so that’s it… the best WordPress Themes for this year… Hope you enjoyed!
